Jan's disease process

From full moon to half moon

Jan, 23 years old, from Paderborn, profession: shoemaker and orthopedic shoemaker

My first wrist pain occurred for the first time at the beginning of February 2017. The first way went straight to the orthopedic surgeon. March 2017.

As with many of us, it was called tendinitis. IBU 600 wear a splint and first sick leave. First cast in mid-March. Reason from the doctor: "I would have worn the splint too little" The pain got worse and worse with the cast. 1 week later I went to the doctor for a check-up. Now the first X-ray was taken. According to the doctor nothing to be seen. The plaster of paris was sawn open and fixed with adhesive tape. At the same time I received a referral to the radiology department. The pain got worse. I took off the cast myself after 3 days at my own risk. 04/10/2017 Diagnosis of lunate necrosis in an MRI with contrast agent. Great .......... and what is the lunate necrosis ???? nobody knows them. Then we went to the neighbor for a beer, who is luckily a hand surgeon. (Dr. Jock) I am so glad that we get on well, which is not often said of neighbors. He said to me, "Jan you have to take your time now and don't rush anything. It's not that easy, but don't bury your head in the sand." He said that he will not operate on it because he is not familiar with the matter, although he is a hand surgeon and has operated on many of our friends. He referred me to a colleague. Dr. Reinke. (Paderborn) Thanks to his contact, I got an appointment very quickly. Miss Dr. Reinke was a bit too big the whole story and referred me to my colleagues in Bad Neustadt an der Saale. Which I am very very happy about.

In the meantime, until I had the appointment in Bad Neustadt, a physiotherapist regularly put a tape on me. This was very good for me, I had almost no pain with the tape. Then on my 24th birthday I went to the clinic in Bad Neustadt. New MRI with contrast agent and surgery discussion. I felt that I was in good hands. Dr. Kalb is a great doctor when it comes to lunate necrosis. 07.07.2017 the first operation. Radius shortening with arthroscopy and denervation of the pain nerves. I was allowed to leave the hospital two days later. The scar looked great and the drainage did not reveal much wound fluid. (Homeopathy: some believe in it, others don't. I took you on a recommendation and it clearly didn't do any harm. And if it was only for the head, it was good for me). Then came the climax of the whole story. Wait and put your arm up. The most difficult discipline in lunate necrosis. WAIT WAIT WAIT ... After wearing a cast for 6 weeks, the physio started. A total of 24 times. (I wouldn't do this with today's experience) The body gets the movement it needs (I only refer to the lunate necrosis and only if the lunate is still present). The doctors advised me not to continue working in the job I was previously in. I've worked a lot with vibrating machines. So in September the termination was in the mailbox. For me a world has collapsed. I studied for this job for 6.5 years and from one moment to the next everything is GONE / OVER / OUT OF THE MOUSE. In October 2017 I had a check-up MRI. This stated that everything was fine. So I was totally happy. "Then things can now go uphill again" In November I visited friends in Mannheim and thought to myself: "Jan, just make another detour to the professionals in Neustadt and play it safe". So I went again (on my own. TIP from me, never go alone to a doctor's consultation) on a little trip. So far said Dr. Kalb is all right, only then came the "BUT". He really wanted to see a certain position of the hand in the X-ray. I didn't think anything about it. During the assessment, he found that the lunate is making itself independent and has "broken open". Everything fell off my face. It was immediately clear to me that action had to be taken. So OP No. 2 came. Temporary ST transfixation. This was a minor procedure that was done in the day clinic. 12/13/2017. This also went well. After wearing the cast for 2 weeks, I gave the hand the movement it needed. No physio. A check-up was supposed to take place after 3 months, so I went back south in March after my 1-year anniversary. MRI with contrast agent and CT. Unfortunately, the bone structure hasn't gotten any better, but it hasn't got any worse either. According to the MRI, the blood circulation is better, which made me very happy, but nothing too wild. According to the doctor's statement. I was slowly getting fed up with the PAINTED OUT. I enrolled in the shoe school in March. So Dr. Calf ... what now. I got along really well with the ST transfixation, the only problem was that I couldn't put any strain on my hand. So we decided to do the STT arthrodesis (partial stiffening). 04/27/18 I cannot give any result at the moment. I feel great after 1 week. I only took pain medication for 2 days. And as already mentioned, the globulis for the "head". A basic conclusion to all of this ...

Even if that sounds a bit crazy to some, but I'm happy the way it is and how it came about. I've learned so much over the past year, know how to appreciate my life now. I would say that I found my real life with lunate necrosis. Without that I wouldn't be where I am now.

I've found a quote in the last few days that fits my story quite well. "Make fertilizer for the future out of the crap of the past".

PS: It was really good to just write it down. So you really notice what you have experienced, how many new people you have met who you would not have met without the lunate necrosis.
